I can’t tell you how many times I receive emails from prospective clients who swear they’ve been affected by Google’s Panda or Penguin updates. While there are tons of sites out there that have legitimately been hit, I’ve yet to come across one.
For instance, one site had a decrease in conversions in people clicking from the search engine listings to their pages. They still ranked #2 for their primary keywords, however (definitely not a case of a Panda or Penguin attack).
One of my consulting clients came to me because they lost about 30% of their traffic from Google. After digging around I found they also lost the same amount of traffic from Yahoo!, Bing and every other search engine. Also not a case where you could blame the Google zoo.
In this week’s video, I’ll explain some instances that might look like a Google penalty, but aren’t. If your site has had weird search engine issues, you’ll want to take 7 minutes and watch this.
If you found this post valuable, others might, too. Please share (below) on your favorite social media sites. Thanks!
