I’ve been watching webcasts of Matt Cutts interviews again (always informative and entertaining!). Want to know what Matt considers the 3 biggest mistakes a website owner can make with regard to SEO?
1. Having an Un-Crawlable Site
Obviously, if the engines can’t get to every page of your site, those pages won’t be crawled, indexed and ranked. What can potentially stop the Googlebot? Navigation that dead ends. Certain Flash elements. Sometimes frames will contribute. Poorly written robot.txt tags and many other factors.
2. Not Creating Good Content

Content not only informs and sells your site visitors, it aids with search engine rankings and is a great way to get links. Who wants to link to a site that has awful copy? Make a point to have compelling text that is ultra specific to your users. Generic dribble is pretty much useless.
3. Not Having a Hook
Matt specifies “something viral.” A blog, a download, a video, a podcast… something that people will want to share with others which will, in turn, drive traffic to your site.
