While I was at a women’s business mastermind event a couple of months ago, a few of the ladies were talking about private label rights (PLR) content and that’s when a lightbulb went off! But hold on … I’m getting ahead of myself. Let me back up just a bit.
You might not be aware, but I spent the first half of my online career hanging out with the Internet marketing and SEO (search engine optimization) crowd. It wasn’t until later (around 2007 or so) that Marketing Words discovered the joys of ecommerce and added a specialty in Amazon product descriptions and other types of retail copywriting.
In the Internet marketing space, private label content is very well known. Bloggers depend on it to provide exceptional information to their readers. PLR is also used in many other creative ways. However, ecomm and Amazon sellers haven’t been introduced to private label content or taken full advantage of it.
So the answer to the query about how to create an ebook the cheap and easy way is with private label content.
What is Private Label Rights Content (PLR)?
As Wikipedia outlines, PLR is content that is written and then sold to multiple customers. You do have rights to use and/or change the content, but you don’t have exclusive rights. Others are also buying the same packages of articles, images, recipes, etc., that you are.
What are the benefits of PLR?
Because the content is available to others, it is created once and sold multiple times. That means the writer can earn more money by selling the same thing to numerous people. If a writer were to create exclusive content for one single client, naturally the price would be significantly higher to cover his/her time and talent.
Here’s How It Works
Say you sell kitchen products on Amazon (or your own ecomm site). You want to offer a bonus ebook to customers who buy your herb grinder. The content would need to include something related to the product to be most effective. How about a 15-page ebook with professional images that outlines 15 types of herbs and provides 15 tip sheets? How much? $20!
You can take that content, put your name on it, and legally use it as-is. Or you can add information to it (an introductory page, for instance) and individualize it. Then you can:

Do I want an ebook that has the same content as somebody else?
Truthfully, as big as the World Wide Web is, it’s unlikely that your competitors and you will end up with the same ebook. But, if you used the PLR as-is, you might run that risk. However, the whole idea behind PLR is that you take the information, add to it, change it a bit, reformat it a little and — ta dah! You have an ebook that is unique to you.
When you want to know how to create an ebook, this is one of the most efficient, professional, and affordable means.
What types of private label topics are available?
Practically everything under the sun!
If you’re in the food space, you can get recipe PLR packages that include:
- plant-based diets
- tastes of Mexico recipes
- soup, salad, sandwich recipes
- and much more
Or go a whole different direction and buy these PLR packs for:
- home organization
- romancing your significant other
- walking for fitness
- personal finance
- bone broth
- weight loss
- mental focus
- and more
With so many uses, such great variety, and the extremely low price; this is without a doubt the best way to create an ebook professionally and affordably.

Hi Karon,
Thanks for some very goods tips. Another advantage to PLR is that because the research is already done, you know there’s a waiting audience for the topic. Of course the biggest challenge for most of us is to get our collected PLR off our hard drive, rewritten and out into the marketplace.
True, but doing that is much easier than starting from scratch!
Can you SELL these PLR books on Amazon Kindle, or would they have a copywrite problem? If yes, then how?
Are you asking if selling them on Kindle would be a copyright violation (as in legally protecting someone rights)? If so, most PLR sites do not allow you to sell their work to others. It would be copyright infringement. Copywriting is the writing of text. The two terms frequently get confused. 🙂
Where would you recommend to buy a PLR article from? I cannot distinguish between the websites that come up on a Google search…which ones offer good content for a reasonable price. Thanks for your help.
I highly recommend the ones I mentioned in the blog post. What topic of PLR are you looking for?
Thanks for your very helpful advice. Most PLR sites do not allow you to sell their work to others. It would be copyright infringement.
That’s correct. You can use them as an incentive (giveaway) when someone subscribes to your list, you can give them away as a free bonus with a product you are selling, you can break up the material and use them as blog posts or email copy, etc.
Thank you for sharing your insight, I would prefer to read more about this kind of topic.
I am sorry it has taken me this long to reply. For some reason, I stopped getting comment notifications. Thank you for your kind words!
