I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this question online. Asking what the best copywriting course is is like asking which house is the best. The best for what? Do you need a house for a large family or a single person? Do you need to be in the city, close to your office or do you prefer the country, away from it all? One story? Two story? Big yard? Just as houses are not one-size-fits-all, either are copywriting courses.
Most people act as if there is one type/style of copywriting when, in fact, there are dozens.
When you’re looking for a copywriting course and asking for references from others, be specific. What type of copy do you want to learn to write? Sales letters? Long-form? Ecommerce product descriptions? SEO copy? Or are you looking for “content” writing? That would be blog posts, articles and other non-sales-type pieces. Most copywriting courses don’t teach those things. If that’s what you’re after, you need to look for an article writing course, not a copywriting course.
What are your goals? Are you an aspiring copywriter who’s just starting out? Are you a business owner or site manager that wants to learn to write his/her own copy? Do you need the course to actually teach you how to write copy or do you simply need to have direction on how to convert your existing skills to a new style of copy? Many so-called copywriting courses don’t teach copywriting at all. They teach how to use your current skill set in a new way. Or, I’ve even seen copywriting courses that give instruction on how to set up and run a copywriting business, but never tell you how to write copy.
Are you a beginner or a seasoned pro?

As you can see, there are tons of options. If you don’t see a comparison chart, email the publisher or author and ask questions before you buy. A decent copywriting course will cost a couple hundred dollars at least because of all the detailed information it includes. Before you buy, you deserve to know if this is a course you’ll benefit from.
.
A very good article especially for copywriters new to the industry.
This is a great article, Karon, well writen, informative, and impartial.
I wish you had done one more thing, though: Say what kind of copywriting course might be best for an aspiring copywriter. I know, I know: It depends. But here’s a fact–most aspiring copywriters fall into a single category. That is, people who believe they can write, and would like to make a living from copywriting.
Surely, there must be a certain type of copywriting course that would benefit such people. (and obviously, other types that would not.) Or at least some guideline that should inform their choice of a course.
Trouble is, most aspiring copywriters simply have no clue what that guideline should be– hence the persistence of that perennial question: What copywriting course is the best?
And no one seems to be answering the question. Can you?
Hi Mike. Yes, I put in the comparison chart which ones were best for beginners and which ones were best for experienced writers. If you are an aspiring copywriter and/or a newbie, you’d want to look at the Six-Figure Copywriting Course if you only want to write direct mail sales letters. If you want to write all sorts of web copy that is geared toward conversions and will rank high with Google, you want to take my Step-by-Step Copywriting Course. The others on the chart are for experienced copywriters. Hope that helps.
