Hello, Karon. Wow, what a great catch. Thanks for paying attention for us. I don’t think “The Pitch” is broadcast in Alaska. I haven’t seen it or heard of it. I’m intrigued with persona. Does that mean developing your own personality to the audience? Generally, with me, what you see is what you get. I’m not a performer. I enjoy writing more than speaking with people. I suppose persona could come across through writing. I haven’t thought much about that. The best persona I have is when I go to a party or an event, I like to dress for the occasion. My talent is in putting outfits together to make one wonderful ensemble. I don’t mean sewing; I mean I pull items from my closet and make an ensemble by working with accessories, including shoes, a purse, and sometimes a hat, hair design, and makeup. On paper, I’m just me. No flair, no special effects. However, I can describe the things I do by providing a list. I never thought of it as persona. I just say these are the things I do and am interested in. So I don’t think that counts as to what you are referring to. So I’m at a loss as to what you mean by persona. Thank you for your time in reading this message. Take care. Happy Summer from Alaska! Rosella Young, AA-1 Designs
Hi Rosella. A persona is creating a human “character” from your target audience analysis. You take the scientific data (demographics, psychographics, etc.) about your general target audience and develop a person out of it. (Or in most cases, you’ll develop several people.) You give him/her a name and it helps you relate on a more human level to the different people within your target audience. This has nothing to do with who you are or how you react toward your customers. Then, when you create your website or write your copy, you do it with “Jane” (or whatever name you gave the persona) in mind. Helps you connect better.
Hope that helps.
Hi – great blog/ video! Interesting items – familiar w/ list-making but the persona factor is new, although makes sense.
Always just called it ‘target customer’ – usually w/ help from surveys, analytics, etc. breakdown of target audience.
(I haven’t heard of/ seen The Pitch either – is that via cable or…? I only get ‘regular’ TV – which I have very time to watch anyway!)
Hi Mary. Well, you create a persona of your target customer. It helps bring the customer to life and make him/her more realistic. “The Pitch” is on the AMC network on cable.
Hi Karon, agree with you. Copy writing is a communication. Even a simple quotation is a communication as well. I have a IT firm, when we prepare quotation or invoice, we can’t put very technical terms because it makes customers hard to understand and read. If we make customers hard to read, they will make us hard to close the deals.
Exactly! If people don’t understand what you’re saying, it sort of defeats the purpose of communicating 🙂
