I received something in the mail the other day that simply made me shake my head. I couldn’t believe just how self-centered this piece of copy was. It was literally all about the company. Why bother sending something like that? Follow me as I transform this all-about-me copy into communication that truly speaks the customer’s language.
Hey Karon,
I’ve been doing some work on polishing up my copywriting skills as of late – this video is a big help. Thank you for that! I’m also looking around at some different ideas on setting up multiple sites really fast. I’ve had some experience with WordPress and feel like it’s a great system. I was wondering if you had any advise on good WP based systems. Do you have any experience in these?
Many Thanks!
Hi Mike,
No, as a copywriter, I don’t have anything to do with design. Sorry I can’t say one way or another about WP systems.
Good morning, Karon!
Thank you for another excellent tutorial.
The ‘you, your’ thing is going well in my content, but from your rewriting of the estate agent’s letter it seems likely that this has been achieved at the expense of friendliness. The copy is perhaps a little too impersonal.
Perhaps I need to get into the habit of saying things like ‘my copy is too impersonal’….
Do you have a tutorial on this 🙂
Kind regards,
L
Hi Linda,
Just saw this post from you. Sorry for the late reply. Not sure what you’re saying. You think adding more “you” and “your” to your copy makes is impersonal? Just the opposite… it speaks directly to the site visitor and addresses them individually making the copy more personal.
Good afternoon Karon,
I’m sorry, I didn’t explain myself too well. I use you and your, to the exclusion of me and my – but my copy still sounds impersonal. Somehow ‘starchy’ – maybe not enough you and your? I tend not to have anyone in it!
Regards,
Linda
LOL. Sometimes I put up a picture of a person I know that falls into the target audience I’m writing to. Then I just write to that one person. It helps me write more directly to them.
Good idea – I’ll give it a go… though it had better not be someone I’ve got ‘a thing’ about (passionate sort of thing)- I don’t want to start getting raunchy! 😉
