OK, who’s up for a little test? Call it a game if you want. Watch this ad and tell me which critical copywriting element they completely left out. Can you spot it? Answer in the comment section below.

Hi Karon,
I got it on the second viewing. Great post, great example! Even proofreaders need proofreaders…
I’m enjoying your course. Very logical and practical, excellent detail.
Thanks!
Evelyn
Thank you Evelyn! Would love to get a testimonial from you when you’re done if you’re willing. You can just send it to me via the private Facebook group.
Hey Karon, yes, it was obvious the video stopped before they even told you how to hire them; no call to action. It would also have been nice if they’d offered some testimonials from happy clients.
I really enjoy these real world examples to look at and critique. I hope there will be more to come like this.
Chris
Thank you! When I find foul-ups I love to use them as examples 🙂
Hi Karon, thanks for this review. It’s a great way to learn and not make the same mistakes.
Karin
Glad it was helpful, Karin. You know, I’ve seen every vowel in our names including “y.” Have you?
Also, if I can ask a favor… if you find the posts on my blog useful, please share via your favorite social media outlet to help me spread the word. Quick-click buttons are just under the video. THANKS!
Karon, this was a good example to use because the ad was so good. Made the missing call to action easier to notice. I’ve been getting into the habit of including a “soft” call to action even on Info Pages of my clients’ site. “For more information, call ###.###.####” or something like that.
Thanks for this…excellent!
You are most welcome, Nick! I agree… every page should have some sort of CTA.
Karon, the significant “Call to Action” is missing and a serious mis-step it is. Just because an ad is thrown up for people to see does not mean anyone will take action. You must direct the viewer to take action in every case. Great example of an important missing element, in an otherwise very well done ad. even the pros make mistakes.
Thanks for sharing this illustration.
You are most welcome. I agree, it was a very compelling ad. Held my attention all the way to the end when I wondered how in the heck to get in touch with these people – lolol.
Good morning Karon!
An excellent review and as usual,a lovely teaching style. Thank you!
It’s one thing to be able to identify what’s missing, not always as easy to understand the wider context of why these things are important.
Kind regards,
L x
Thanks Linda. I appreciate it 🙂
Yes, biggest mistake! No call to action..
Hi Karon – a great video, many thanks. I love the way you use actual examples like this to illustrate an important point – it really helps to ram it home and makes it much more memorable.
Thank you very much!
Sue
Thanks Sue. Very nice of you to say 🙂
Marketers need to watch this clip. Call to action is the most important element of creating an ad or sales copy. After people have read or watched your advertisement message, you need to tell them what they need to do next.
Great video Karon.
I am happy to report that I did get it that there was no call to action. It is always easier to spot others mistakes, so I hope that this will enforce the message so I always remember to include a call to action.
Thanks, Kathy
