If you’ve been blogging regularly for longer than a week, chances are pretty good that you’ve hit a brain block at least once.
As with every other type of writing, blogging (for beginners or pros) can take a toll on your creativity.
Blog post examples help to re-engage your imagination and inspire you with blog post ideas that your audience not only wants to read, but also to share.
These 5 blog article types tell you why these types of posts always do well, along with examples of bloggers who have done them right!
Blog Post Idea #1: Checklists
Lists and checklists are HOT! If this subject is something people do all the time, they’d appreciate a checklist they can print off or save as a PDF (there’s a plug-in for that!).
Cooking, dieting, gardening, sending emails, optimizing web pages, potty-training a puppy… you name it and checklists can be made for those activities. Need simple ideas for blogging? Beginners and pros will find this one easy to implement and extremely popular.

You could even make a short downloadable checklist for readers that they would opt-in to receive.
Blog Post Idea #2: Interviews
Interviews come in all types of formats: written, video, audio. When doing interviews for your blog, the idea is to allow the reader to enjoy the conversation, not just read a transcript.
Blogs can also contain video posts and audio posts. Regardless of which you choose, allow your personality and that of your interviewee to shine through. The most interesting interviews are the ones where personalities prevail.
You’ll want to include tons of useful information, not just a sales pitch.

Blog Post Idea #3: News
Blogging for beginners sometimes means you don’t consider every type of post available to you. Even experienced bloggers may or may not have considered covering the news in their industry.
Take a journalistic, unbiased approach (or hybrid) approach to something noteworthy that’s happening in your industry: An event you went to. A breaking story. Changes to software, processes, new technology, and how your peeps could use it.
Whether you report on the happenings strictly as an outsider looking in, or interject your opinions along with the facts, your readers will appreciate being kept up to date.

Blog Post Idea #4: Stories
Stories engage and connect. If it’s applicable and presented well, stories captivate readers and guide them through from title to conclusion.
It doesn’t matter whether you tell your own story or someone else’s. If you choose your own story, it doesn’t have to be your life story, and you don’t have to tell it all in one single blog post.
Start with a blog article about one specific instance that relates to something you want to teach or sell. From there, move forward in chronological order or bounce around from one high point to the next. You’re totally free to take the approach that best suits you.

Blog Post Idea #5: Group Posts
This is where a group of people each contributes a tip or a few paragraphs to the post. Brings a lot of interest, helps with social shares (they want to show that they were chosen to participate), great for affiliate sales if you include links, etc.

Still Drawing a Blank? Here Are 3 Easy Ways to Find Blog Post Ideas Fast
- Find Blog Post Ideas on Websites
Visit your competitors’ websites and have a look around their blogs. The purpose is not to plagiarize, but to get ideas. For instance, if someone has a post that simply deals with blogging for beginners, I might expand on that and write a post geared toward blogging for beginners who want to monetize. Or, part-time blogging for beginners.
Another website I love to poke around in is AnswerThePublic.com. Just enter a keyword or keyphrase and Answer The Public will make content suggestions. LOTS of content suggestions! Click on the “data” link for results in an easier-to-read format.
There’s a limited-use free version and a pro version with handy features.
Keywords Everywhere (which is actually a plug-in, not a website) works on web pages to produce a quick list of keyphrases and their projected search volume. This is a super-easy way to get blog post ideas fast and to know how popular the topic will be.
- Find Blog Post Ideas Using Notepads
Whether you prefer digital or paper notepads, you’ll want to use them to collect story ideas.
All day, every day, things happen to your or friends that can work as short stories in blog posts, and also for social posts, emails, and more.
To ensure that you don’t forget later, you’ll want to jot down enough to remind you about:
- What happened
- Why it was memorable
- The point of the story
- How it relates to topics you blog about
- Use Calendars to Generate Blog Post Ideas
Take a look at the calendar on your wall or on your computer. Are there any holidays or events coming up soon? Those can make interesting blog posts.
Certainly holidays, but also events such as Daylight Saving Time, Election Day, summer or winter solstice, and other events.
For example, once a year I lament about having to go off of Daylight Saving Time. I dread it getting dark so much earlier and it’s a big ordeal for me. A few years ago, I decided to focus on the facts that it’s only for 4 months, and other elements that make it not-so-bad.
But there are also dozens of other calendars that list fun or important days, weeks, months. Perhaps Bring Your Pet to Work Day would appeal to your audience. Or National Hobby Month (in January) would give you ideas for several blog articles.

The Keywords Everywhere plugin is now a paid extension. 🙁
Was good when it was free.
Yes. It’s a paid extension. It doesn’t cost much and is super-handy. I still use it. If you turn it off in between uses, you make your credits last a lot longer 😉
Answer the Public is the one I mentioned that has a free and paid version.
